SYNOPSIS

After the sudden death of her father, eight-year-old Simone (Morgana Davies) shares a precious secret with her mother Dawn (Charlotte Gainsbourg). The girl is convinced that her father continues to watch over the family in the mighty fig tree in front of their house, that he magically whispers to her through the rustling leaves. As a growing closeness develops between Dawn and her new employer, George (Marton Csokas), the girl spends more and more time high up in the branches. And it seems as if the tree is showing solidarity with the jealous Simone. Soon, a showdown between man and nature, between mother and daughter, ensues. In the film adaptation of Judy Pascoe’s bestseller, French director Julie Bertucelli impressively captures the archaic yet magical, threatening and protective power of Australian nature. A story about love and death, grief and dreams, sadness and happiness, told with the power of an ancient drama and the magic of great emotions, carried by a magnificent Charlotte Gainsbourg.
